Everyone deserves dignity
The Wayne Center started in 2019 by Kate Varga. She was seeing homeless in Dickson Tennessee, and wanted a way to help those who were struggling.
Seeing the housing market sky rocket and limited places to rent she wanted a place for those without a home to feel safe, loved, and learn the skills necessary to be self sufficient.
The Wayne center is named in honor of Kate’s father Wayne. He was homeless for most of his life; living in different houses, under bridges, sidewalks and jumping from couch to couch.
In 2017 he was diagnosed with skin cancer.
Kate visited her father in Arizona to help get him back on his feet. Obtaining a birth certificate, stable housing, disability and medical care, she helped him get on his feet.
Due to unsafe living conditions and holes in the system, Wayne stopped treatment and passed away in 2019.
After observing the lack of a true shelter in Dickson, Kate started The Wayne Center. The goal is to be as self sustainable as possible. Creating a place where people don’t have to worry about basic necessities and focus on creating a life filled with purpose is the Waynes Center’s mission.
